The Aerwyl Federation began when an ambitious Nova Commission member named Mazool began to build up his army, with the help of corrupt officials in the Nova Commission itself. When Mazool gave the order, the fleet attacked an Eden World called Gaemir. The Eco-Corps was hard-pressed to defend itself with no viable weapons, and initial casualties were high. However, other divisions of the Nova Commission leapt into action, including the elite Nova Squadron. The battle, known as the Long Red Night, lasted one year. At its end, Mazool found himself in control of the Futurno quadrant of Dimension X.
He renamed Gaemir "Mazool's World," and set it up as the capital for his "Aerwyl Federation" as he called it. He has since added a dozen solar systems to his empire, and it has a total of 7 inhabited planets. The Nova Commission has fought him at every step, but little has been accomplished, due to the power and ruthlessness of the Aerwyl fleet.
Recently, a black hole in Dimension X forced evacuation of severl nearby planets. The Federation sought to plunder the refugee ships, and action was taken not only by the Novas, but by the rag-tag Armada of Stump Asteroid, including Nova Posse and the TMNT. Sarnath used the Turnstone to destroy most of Mazool's fleet in the battle and return the spacemen to Mazool's World. Mazool, however, has repaired his forces, and is now more powerful, dangerous, and vengeful than ever.
The Aerwyl Federation is made up of the dregs of Dimension X: greedy and corrupt traitors to the Nova Commission, space pirates, and mercanaries. It is, however, well-armed, with loads of advanced technology either stolen from the Novas or developed on their own. The Aerwyls may be nasty and sneaky, but they are not a force to be trifled with.
The Aerwyl Federation does not really have branches. There are, of course, different ranks and positions in the organization, but no seperate divisions with seperate duties.
The Federation is as wildly diverse as the Nova Commission. In fact, most of the fighters come from there, enticed by promises of wealth or power. Mazool is not picky about the types of people he accepts; there is not entrance exam or anything. He has been joined by mercenaries and space pirates as well as former Novas. He is also not sexist, giving equal opportunities for advancement to females and males, as long as the females are nasty enough and willing to do his bidding.
Each different type of fighter in Mazool's empire has a different uniform.
Sentries wear red jackets and slacks, with black high boots. The reason for this is unknown, since red is an easily detectable color. Circumstances would suggest that Mazool is an idiot, but we know he is not, so there must be a reason.
Spacemen (and women) of all ranks wear the blue jumpsuits with yellow trim and gloves, and brown leather boots that all Novas wear. This is because most of them came from the Novas, and had the uniforms already. This makes them difficult to tell apart from Novas, but since they fight in their ships, it does not matter.
Fortress guards wear the same uniforms as spacemen, but with two additions. Guards also wear rounded helmets and visors which shield their eyes.
Admirals (spacemen who fly single-seater craft and command other ships) dress totally in brown. They wear brown jumpsuits with utility builts and brown gloves and boots. They also have a weapon holster on the right hip, and a silver-colored helmet with visor and breathing apparatus.
Sentries carry PR-87s.
Spacemen carry the most diverse array of weaponry. Their ships, of course, are supplied with laser cannons and such. The standard issue weapon is a hand-held automatic pulser, or AP. It comes in three different sizes and powers: AP-14, AP-26, and AP-52. Officers are entitled to carry pulser rapid-fire rifles, or PR-87. There are also a variety of special weapons which may be assigned to crew members on covert missions. Crew may not carry special weapons unless authorized by their commanding officer.
Fortress guards carry PR-87s.
Admirals carry AP-26s.
Mazool is an equal-opportunity employer. Anyone who is willing to join them, he will accept. Of course, only the greediest, slimiest, and nastiest people want to work for Mazool. Fortunately for him, those are just the type he needs.

Mazool began work as an Assistant Technician, later promoted to Chief Technician. He quit that job to be a Nova Squadron spy for a time, then worked his way into the Nova Commission. There, he carefully collected corrupt Nova Squadron officials and Intergalactic Police officers, forming a nearly unbeatable force. Finally, Mazool said the word, and Mazool's fleet attacked Gaemir, an Eden-world under Eco-Corps protection. The battle lasted a year, but Mazool was victor.
Mazool is still enticing dishonest spacemen with promises of loot and riches in exchange for loyal service. He is very capable of dealing death to anyone who opposes him, and rewarding those who serve him. He lives on Mazool's world, commanding his troops and rarely venturing off, though he occassionally leads an attack from his flagship.
Recently, he sought to plunder refugees fleeing a giant black hole. In the ensuing fight, Sarnath destroyed most of the ships in the fleet. To Mazool, this represented only a minor setback. He quickly rebuilt his shattered fleet and now is more powerful than ever. He has an all-encompassing hatred for Luna Azul and her Nova Posse, and would go to any lengths to defeat them. He is the Nova Commission's constant enemy, and since the Turtles have helped the Posse before, he is not overly fond of them either.
